The other day Brooklyn got into the car without shoes without me knowing. She was forced to walk shoeless on the street for a little bit. After a while she looked up at me and said, "Mom, these rocks literally hurt my feet so bad!"

RYDER

My little Ryder is already 2 and 1/2 months old! He is growing well. He's in the 90th percentile for height (which hasn't happened with my children before), and about 80th percentile for weight. He is the happiest and sweetest little thing ever to come to this earth! He is such a good baby and he treats his mommy well! He has been consistently sleeping through the night since about 8 weeks old. He usually gives me a solid 9-10 hours at night...I know, I don't deserve it! My older kids were so attached to the binki that until they were over a year old I would have to go and pop their binki in once or twice a night. The beautiful thing with Ryder is that he will take a binki to calm him down (or hold him off until I can feed him) but he is not so attached to it that he needs it all the time! He is starting to giggle a little bit and he smiles all day long! He just kind of hangs out as long as I don't let him get too tired or too hungry. I really couldn't have asked for a happier baby!

Little All-Star

Kyle is our little athlete! He is just finishing up his baseball season and a great season it's been! He is in the "machine pitch" league and we were a little nervous to start him out in that league. Usually they start with t-ball, then coach pitch, then go to machine pitch, but we had some friends we wanted to be on a team with so we went for it. He has really done amazing!
After every hit he does a little victory dance (pictured below) at first base, then he always gives us the "thumbs up!" It is the Cutest thing ever!

He is quite the little hitter, but my favorite thing about Kyle is that even when he strikes out (which isn't often...the proud mommy had to add that in) he still has a huge smile on his face! He just lets it roll right off his back!

Here he is playing catcher, but his favorite position is third base. It is just too much fun watching him play!

Best Day Ever

On Memorial Day we borrowed our friends' bikes and trailer and took off on the funnest bike ride! We rode all around the Daybreak lake then around the temple then past Kyles kindergarten. It was a very long ride and up a huge hill, but Kyle did amazing! Brookie and Ryder did great in the trailer, and I'm just glad I didn't have to pull it up that crazy hill! We can't wait to get bikes of our own!

Our little Ryder was born March 17th at 11:08 PM. I will give more details later, but needed to get pictures up immediately due to death threats. Mom and baby are both doing very well!

Wicked Fun Party!!

We celebrated the kids birthday this past weekend and had some serious fun! Since their birthdays are only a week apart and they have all the same friends we did a combined party at Classic Family Fun Center (known as Classic Skating when I was a child). I'm not sure if the adults or kids had more fun! Brookie requested a chocolate Tinkerbell cake and that is what she got! It took a ridiculous amount of time to make, but it was a lot fun! Obviously it was allergy-friendly for her, and it was all worth it to see the excitement in her face when she got to actually eat cake!!I tried to talk Kyle into a different cake, but he wanted Lightning McQueen again! Thank goodness my sister-in-law, Mandi, showed up to help me finish this one. My hand was cramping up!

Brooklyn almost didn't even want to open her presents because she was enjoying her chocolate cake too much!

My family used to really like going to Chucky Cheeses and Jungle Jims for partys. My sister-in-law, Jesika, parted from playing for two seconds, ran over to us and dramatically declared, "Chucky Cheese is DEAD to me!" Then she ran back to playing! My dad hollered back to her, "Chucky, WHO?!" I have been laughing about that for days!

Steve was declared the "Best Shot" in the blast zone!

And the perfect finish to the funnest party ever was my mom, dad and brothers won the grand prize of 100 tickets at the Deal or No Deal game! It came down to two cases. One had one ticket, the other had 100 tickets and we could have made the deal and settled with 50 tickets. We had ten seconds to decide and half the people were shouting "NO DEAL!" and the other half screaming "DEAL!!!" It was pretty dramatic! With one second left my brother pushed "No Deal" and when we realized the case had the 100 tickets you would have thought my family just won the lottery! We all went absolutely crazy!

Where to Begin?

Well, obviously we have disappeared from the blogging world for nearly a year!! I have many friends and family who have not been happy with me about that, and to them I am very sorry! We are back in business now! I figured it would be nearly impossible to try and catch up on the last year so I am simply going to pick up from right now and move forward! We recently had a super fun vacation down to St. George. Some of our closest friends from college are from there and were home visiting their parents. We took advantage of the opportunity to see them by crashing at their parents house with them! They were our second family during college and they always took such great care of us! In this picture is Ryan, Meagan, Jase and Macey.They have an unbelievable party house and Kyle could not get enough of it, especially the Wii!

The boys went out boating and Kyle was pretty excited that he got to drive the boat all by himself!

Brookie could not get enough of Macey! The first moment she saw her she said, "I want to get that kind of baby!" She did a lot of practicing to be a big sister!! (Yes, I am pregnant if that is news to anybody)

One of the benefits of living close to my parents are phone calls like these:

Me: Hello?
Dad: Hey Jewels, do you think we could take Kyle to Vegas with us?
Me: Of course.
Dad: We might be gone a week...is that okay?
Me: Yes, that's fine.
Dad: Okay, we are leaving in about an hour. Mya is coming too. Would you mind bringing her with you?
Me: Sure. See you soon!

And just like that they headed out on a road trip with my parents. They are just the best of friends! They left on a Tuesday morning and got home Sunday night. They really had the time of their life! Everyone kept asking me if it was so hard without him, and to be honest...it wasn't! The reason is because I knew how much fun he was having, and that was fun for me. He was on vacation with his best friend getting spoiled to death! They have a room at their house in Vegas with two twin beds so every night they were having sleep overs, and during the day it was nonstop fun and partying. He couldn't even part for more than 30 seconds from what he was doing to talk to me each day. I really can't even explain what a blast they had! He talks about Vegas every day! I will try and get the pictures of their trip from my parents.

Kyle and Mya were crazy trick or treaters. It was hard for the adults to even keep up with them. It was pretty cute.

Temple Square

A couple of weeks ago I went on a super fun outing with the kids. We took trax downtown to Temple Square and met Christian there. We brought a picnic for lunch then walked all around the grounds and enjoyed both visitor centers. We had a wonderful time! Brookie kept looking at me saying, "I'm happy, Mommy!" Here we are waiting for the train. Here we are on the train. Brooklyn was so nervous at first, but soon loved it!

I can't believe we don't do this more often. It was a blast!!!

Allergic Reaction

Kyle and Brookie were both enjoying their milk (Brookie drinking her soy and Kyle drinking cows milk) when Brookie tried dumping her sippy cup on Kyle. Maybe one drop got on him but he lashed back with spitting his milk in her face, like any good brother would do. A tiny bit got in her eye and it swelled shut! She had welts all around here eye where the milk had touched her skin. This picture doesn't really capture what it looked like. It was so sad. Kyle felt terrible! We called her allergist and she said that as long as her breathing was okay to just rinse out her eye and give her benadryl and just keep an eye on her. It made me pretty nervous! This poor little girl! Kyles boo-boo-buddy makes everything better. I think we use it about 2 times a day!

Utah Football!

Uncle Spence hooked us up with some sweet box suite tickets to the Utah vs. Air Force game. I am telling you what, that is the ONLY way to go to a game with kids! We sat there in our t-shirts watching the rest of the crowd get drenched with rain! The kids got to just run around, eat snacks, and sit on the couch when they felt like it! It was so nice not worrying about keeping them warm! And it turned out to be a pretty good game with the Utes winning in overtime! Thanks Spence!!!

Some people commented on how Brookie looks like Cindy Lou-who with her hair sticking up. That one piece is always sticking up! And when we ask Brooklyn for a big smile, this growl look is what you get! Kind of funny!

I may never go to another game again unless we are in a box!:)

Leaf Hunt

We have been sick for a couple of weeks now and have been going CRAZY with not being able to go anywhere. We decided one day to take a drive up the canyon to go on a leaf hunt. I figured it would be a fun outing where we didn't have to worry about exposing innocent bystanders to our awful bug. So we threw on our sweats and cowboy boots and off we went! The boots were their choice, by the way! They LOVE their cowboy boots and wear them everywhere! If I don't want them wearing the boots for whatever reason I have to hide them!

Luckily we are turning the corner and are just about better. I had strep throat and a terrible cough. Brookie had the same thing and, unfortunately, developed double ear infections, which causes me great concern about the upcoming winter months. It has been eight months since her last ear infection, which is a record for her entire life! I guess we will see what flu season has in store for her little ears soon enough!

Overall, our outing was fantastic! It was just what we needed - to get out of the house and get some fresh air! We had a smashing success with our leaf hunt and I'm sad to report that I forgot to take a picture of the outcome! We brought the leafs home, painted them, and did leaf stamping on paper. It turned out super cute!

Again, I am finally getting around to posting birthday pictures. Brookies birthday was October 3rd, and she turned two! We had a super fun day!! We did presents in the morning, then went to Chuck-E-Cheese to celebrate with my family. Brookie was born the same day as Presley so we did a combined birthday party for the two girls!

I have been so bad at blogging!! Kyle turned 4 on September 24th and I am finally getting around to posting some pictures!

We also were lucky enough to celebrate his birthday with his cousins Jansen and Natalie! We don't get to see them very much so it was very exciting to have them with us the entire day of his birthday! We decided to go up to the lake at Daybreak and we had so much fun! Aren't these guys the cutest ever!?!

More Seattle

Here we are in the heart of downtown Seattle having lunch. It was the perfect day outside! Another picture of lunch outside.

Kyle has a book from his Aunt Emily called "Larry Gets Lost in Seattle." Kyle absolutely loves this book and it shows this little puppy going to all of the big sites in Seattle. Kyle couldn't wait to go and see in person all of the places that Larry visited. One thing that he was most excited about was the "Train in the Sky" as he called it. Here we are getting ready to board the monorail.

Bike-Riding Maniac

As most of you know, Kyle is obsessed with riding his bike! He could ride it ALL day if I let him. For a long time now he has been begging us to take his training wheels off. I was hesitant because his legs are kind of short and I didn't know if he'd be able to catch himself when stopping. He finally started to say, "Mommy, will you take my training wheels off for my birthday?" At that point I decided that if he wants it that bad I will at least let him try. We started to take them off when Christian was on his way home from work. I figured that would give us a little time to get them off and get used to it, then Christian could be there for the big moment when we let him try it by himself. Once we got them off I called Christian and was talking to him for a minute and looked over and he was off riding all by himself. I couldn't believe it! We never even held onto the back of his seat running beside him...he just up and took off without us. He is a little maniac. The video below was taken about 5 minutes after we took his training wheels off. It has been several days now and he is already trying new, crazy things with his bike. I kind of feel bad now for not taking the training wheels of sooner!

Seattle Mariners

We recently took an amazing trip up to Seattle to visit Christian's family. We have so many pictures to post, but for now here are the pictures of the Mariners' game we were fortunate enough to go to. This first picture is in front of Qwest Field where the Seahawks play (which is right next door to Safeco Field). Our happy little Mariner would not stay off of the stairs!

4th of July Fun!

We went to Rock Springs, WY to celebrate the 4th with my brother, sister, and their families! Jason, Dax and Mya came, too. We went boating on the 4th and had blast! We had so much fun that Mya fell fast asleep on the boat!

I think we should start calling Dax "Crax" instead!

Christian's Grandparents came in town from Boise, ID to watch Sydney while her parents got to tour Europe! We got together with them a few times, but there was always so much going on that I forgot to get many pictures. We did, however, snap some pictures of this little moment! Kyle and Sydney went to play in the yard and the next thing we knew they were out there singing and dancing in the rain. I posted a little video below of their rain dance!

She's Growing!!

My baby girl has finally reached 20 lbs! At her weight check last week she gained almost a pound weighing 20 lbs. 2 oz! We are thrilled with that progress. She is almost back on the charts, even! YEAH! And another bit of great news: She has not had an ear infection since her last surgery! This is the longest she's gone since she was 5 months old without an ear infection. Things are looking up! She is getting close to growing out of her size 3 shoes, and almost fits into 18 month clothes! Hip-Hip-Hooray! Some sad news is that she has been having night terrors. They have been a little more frequent lately and it is the saddest thing. The doctor says she probably doesn't even remember them in the morning, but they traumatize me! She has had them since she was little, but we just didn't know that's what it was. Aparently, there is really nothing you can do for them. I still need to do more research so if any of you know much about this let me know!

More Soccer

I have to tell you the cutest story. Mya is on Kyles soccer team and she had only been able to make it to one game before this one and at that game she was too scared to go in and play. At this game it was the same story. She wanted nothing to do with it. Kyle came out on the sidelines and held her hand and stood there with her for a few minutes. Then we looked over and they had ran out together. They held hands nearly the whole time. It was the sweetest thing. They just love each other so much! Here they are with Noah at the RLS soccer game. They had a blast. They got voucher tickets with their soccer registration and ended up getting great seats!

Kyle had his first soccer game on Saturday. It was about the cutest thing I've ever seen! So Kyle may not have been the MVP (as you might have noticed from the videos below) but I'm pretty sure he took the award for having the most fun! It was so funny to watch him. He kept "pretend falling" over and over and thought it was hilarious, as did we! Half the time he didn't even know where the ball was but he had a huge smile on his face on the entire time and just kept running, even if it was in the opposite direction of the ball:) At half time he ran over to go play with the other team. He didn't want to stop!

He got to throw the ball in after it went out of bounds.

Easter Eggs!

I'm a little late with this post, but here we are dying Easter Eggs! Mya was there, of course! Brookie would not let go of that egg!

Did I ever mention Kyles brown tooth? He fell and landed on his mouth on the tile and his tooth "died" or whatever they call it. Luckily it has lightened up a little bit since this picture.

Salt Lake Marathon 26.2!!!

I think I forgot to mention on the blog that we were training for the Salt Lake Marathon. Well, we ran every inch of that 26.2 miles on Saturday, if you can believe that! Here we are at 5 am eating our breakfast before the marathon. My aunt Heidi (my mom's little sister) and her friends came all the way from South Dakota to run.

Here we are at mile 18. My parents brought us banana's, ibuprofen, and bagels to re-fuel. They were such life-savers!! The marathon sent out e-mails saying that they would provide energy gels at a few of the aide stations so we did not bring anything with us. They NEVER provided the gels so we went the first 18 miserable miles on a bagel. We felt so much better after the fuel and encouragement from our family! Kyle, Brooklyn, my sister Rachael, her new baby Ashlyn, my grandparents, and parents were all their cheering us on! It helped so much. Thanks guys! Love you!

I think this was at about mile 22 - it was all a blur at that point!

Here we were rounding the corner at the Gateway mall to the finish line. What a miracle it was to see that! At this corner we had my same family at that point, too, and then were totally surprised to see JoDeane and Kelsey there cheering us on, too. It made all the difference in the world to have our family there supporting us! We can't thank you enough!

I don't know what was going on with my face in this picture, but what I do know is that I was just so happy to not be running anymore!!!

It took us just over 5 hours to finish, which is a horrible time, but we were just happy we were able to finish given all the problems we faced during our training. We were totally under prepared, and almost didn't even run in the race. We picked a horrible time of year to run a marathon (tax season and running don't mix very well). We hardly saw Christian for the 2 and a half months before our race. It didn't help, either, to have 2 ear surgeries, lots of ear infections, sick children, and test after test for Brookie. All in all we feel pretty good about what we did!

Results

The great news is that Brooklyn does not have cystic fibrosis. I didn't mention that they were testing for that because I didn't want to cause any unnecessary worry. She has some strong symptoms of it so we were pretty nervous for a few days, but luckily she does not have it! The testing went well (as well as I could have hoped). They hooked her up to a machine and had to send electrical shocks to her arm for 5 minutes. She did not like it, but tolerated it pretty well. Occasionally, she'd lock her little fists up and just shake them because it was so uncomfortable. That made me so sad, but she is so tough! After that part they wrapped her arms up and we just had to walk around the hospital for 30 minutes. She LOVED that part. She had Mom and Dad's full attention (without Kyle) and everybody who saw her absolutely adored her. She would walk up to people and lift her arms up and point to her "bandages." It was totally adorable. After they removed the wraps from her arms they had to do the blood work. That was no fun, but the lady got it on the first try. What a miracle! That is way better than the four tries it took last time. Some of her labs were a little out of range, but nothing to be too concerned about. We still need to follow up with somebody about why she is not growing. My doctor is supposed to call me to figure out a plan from here.

More Tests!

Little Brookie had her 18 month well-check yesterday and it didn't go so well. She has actually lost weight since her last appointment and is not even on the charts anymore. The doctor is concerned because she is actually a pretty good little eater, but she can't seem to grow. We will be back up at Primary Children's on Monday for some more blood work and other testing. The testing will not be fun. They have to do a chloride sweat test, which I know she will hate. This is getting pretty old. I feel so bad for Brookie that she has to go though all of this. She starts to cry even when we pull into the parking lot of a doctors office because she knows where we are and what is coming.

Love/Hate Relationship!

Kyle and Brookie are starting to bug each other a lot more lately. Brookie could smash her head on the table and not even flinch, but if Kyle accidentally bumps her in passing it's like her whole world ends. Kyle can be so sweet to her one second, and then the next he'll do anything he can to bother her. When he is trying to be sweet he calls her "baby." He'll say in a really soft voice, "It's okay, baby!" or "What do you need baby girl?" One thing they both love doing is having Kyle carry Brookie. They think it is Hilarious!! We have to spot because it often ends in catastrophe, but they laugh and laugh. I couldn't get a great picture of it, but below are pictures of him picking her up and trying to carry her.

At the gym there are two separate play rooms but they are usually in the same one together. For some reason last week they put Brooklyn in the other playroom without Kyle. She seemed fine when I dropped her off, but when I picked her back up her little eyes were red and swollen with tears streaming down her cheeks. They said she had a really hard time that day and when I picked her up the first thing she said was, "Kyle, Kyle!" I said, "You want Kyle?" and she gave me a firm nod and pointed to the door. Once we got Kyle she was laughing and giggling again!

Nationals!!

I've been in California all weekend for Cheer Nationals and we're having a blast!!! We left Thursday morning and we'll fly home tomorrow afternoon. The weather has been completely amazing! I'm ready to move here!

The girls sadly had to miss their prom for Nationals so we made them all sashes and went to dinner. It was really cute!

Here I am with Amanda (Kyle's first love). He calls her Damanda and gets totally shy any time I even mention her name!

I got to meet the actual Lightning McQueen and Mater! Kyle was thrilled. Disneyland was SOOO fun, but it made me really miss the kids. Everything I saw reminded me of them and I kept saying "Oh, Kyle would LOVE this!"

When I was in high school and went to Disneyland I thought it was fun, but maybe a little overrated. I don't like crowds and lines and that's all you get when you come during Cheer Nationals! But now having kids I viewed Disneyland so different. It really is such a magical place and I can't wait to bring my kids here!!! I have loved every minute of it!

I'm trying to teach her to say "new car" because she, like all the other granddaughters, knows very well that whatever she asks grandpa for she gets! I got a part time job, if you can believe it! I am going to be a cord blood phlebotomist. It's going to be a pretty amazing job. I will be on the maternity floor the whole time and actually be in on the birth of the babies. After the baby is born they cut the cord and hand the baby to the mom and hand the placenta to me. I will then take the placenta to my work space and extract all the blood from it and then package it up and send it off to the blood bank. I've posted a link below of an article that explains what I will be doing, and it even has a picture of the lady that interviewed me. I will be in that same gear when I work. It's pretty intense! Overall, I'm super excited about everything. I found a GREAT in-home daycare for the kids, and it turns out that she is the sister-in-law of Christians cousin. I met her at Christians cousins bridal shower and was really impressed with her. She just seemed like a neat person so I was Thrilled after talking to her on the phone and realizing that connection. There is NO way I would have taken this job if I didn't have a wonderful place for the kids. I think it will be good for all of us to have a little break from each other once or maybe twice a week. The daycare lady has kids the same age as Kyle and Brookie and I think it will be a great situation. I go back and forth with feeling guilty for taking a job, but I am really excited about. I'll at least try it out and see how it works for everyone.

Surgery

Here are a few pictures of my baby girl before her surgery. She was such a good girl! I hate the part when they take her to the operating room. Last time she screamed when the anaesthesiologist took her, but today she was so brave. She didn't even cry, at least until she was out of my sight! The doctor came out and talked to us right after it was over and the first thing he said was, "Well, that procedure DEFINITELY needed to be done." He said her adenoids were huge and is not surprised that she has had infections for the last year straight. He thinks that this will do wonders. Oh, I hope so! He also had to replace one of the tubes. The left side was completely clogged and needed to put a bigger one in. He was able to clear out the right side and get that tube working again so that one stayed in place. She had a very difficult time recovering, which is normal, but it was so sad. It took her a lot longer this time than last to snap out of it. Luckily Christian was in town this time so I had his help, which was so nice! Oh, I'm just so glad it's over. Let's just pray this does the trick!

I know I'm going to sound mean when I tell this story, but at least it makes Kyle sound nice! Kyle and Mya were ready for a snack and they wanted yogurt. I told Mya she couldn't have one because about the last 6 times she's had a yogurt she eats 3 bites and throws the rest of it away. Kyle got his out of the fridge and Mya said she really wanted one. I again told her she could have something else and then walked out of the room for a minute. I overheard Kyle say, "Mya, you can have some of mine." When I came back in the room they were on the chair together and Kyle was feeding Mya bites of his yogurt.

Brookie was standing in the kitchen and all of a sudden her pants just dropped to her ankles. I bought her these pants in September thinking she would grow into them and wear them all winter. As you can see, they still don't fit! I guess there is always next winter.

The Basement is Finished!!!

We finally got the basement finished a couple of weeks ago! We are thrilled. We love hanging out down there and it's so nice to have the extra space. The door on the left is the kids playroom under the stairs. We were excited to have all that extra storage, but as soon as we brought the toys down they all went straight into the closet. They love playing under there and we didn't have the heart to fill it with boxes. The door on the right will be the bathroom when we decide to finish it! Down that hall is where you go up the stairs. We've still got lots to do like get door knobs and blinds and decorate, but that will just have to come later! This is under the stairs. It wraps around the corner, too.

Our lounging area. It looks like a mess down there because Kyle and Mya were in the middle of a play session when I took the pictures. There are the two trouble makers. The sun makes it kind of hard to see, but that is their big play area. I LOVE sending them down there!

Now we have plenty of room for all of our very much wanted out of town guests (Angie, Kim, Brooke, Rachie, Jessica, etc...you all better come now)

Poor little Brookie has double ear infections...no surprise. She's been sick with a cough and a runny nose, too. She feels absolutely terrible! The only thing I love about her being sick is she is super snugly! She could just cuddle with me all day!

We are going back into the ENT this afternoon because we think one of her tubes fell out. I really hope not, but yesterday her ears were draining worse than they ever have. Last night she was up almost every hour in severe pain. She kept pointing to her left ear and saying "ouwie" (I don't know how to spell that) and this morning her left ear completely stopped draining. Her right ear is still draining and never have any of her infections cleared up that fast. For those of you who don't know much about ear tubes, they allow the infection to drain and relieves the intense pressure of the infection. The fact that she's been in so much pain and it's not draining definitely indicates a problem and I guess we'll find that problem out today, hopefully!

Brookie likes to wear my clothes lately. She'll go in my closet, pick out a shirt and hand it to me while she desperately tries taking hers off. She also likes to wear my socks, necklaces, bracelets, and scarfs.

Just a random story: At church Brookie was playing with a little girl one month younger than her. This little girl has lots of hair and had a cute little barrette in it. Brookie came up to me later and handed me the barrette with a clump of hair in it and pointed to her head asking me to put it in her hair. I couldn't believe she just ripped it right out of the other little girls hair! I tried hard to put it in, but she didn't have enough hair to hold it. It would fall out within seconds. She had me try over and over and over. This little girl can't wait for hair!

We finally heard from the Doctor yesterday and some of the results were kind of surprising. Her milk allergy is no surprise, but the doctor was surprised at how severely allergic she is to it. That is pretty rare for such a little girl! Her other food allergies include egg, beef and pork. She is also allergic to dog, cat and dust mite (those allergies aren't as severe). Luckily she is not allergic to wheat or soy. Those would have been really hard allergies to deal with. The egg allergy could be kind of rough considering all the yummy things, like cake and cookies, that have eggs in it. The doctor is pretty confident that the egg products are what is causing all of the ear infections. Brookie doesn't eat eggs and doesn't have tons of food with eggs in it so it doesn't seem to me like that could be causing the crazy ear infections over and over. But what do I know? She is the doctor and has years of experience so I need to just trust that, but I am a little worried that we haven't nailed down the problem yet. The soy allergy would have made sense to be causing the ear infections because she was drinking a lot of soy milk. I guess we'll just wait and see what happens after some time of absolutely no egg, beef or pork products. I'm half tempted to get a second opinion, but don't know if I'm just being a crazy person. All I know is I'm WAY tired of ear infections!

Christian had to leave town for work so the kids and I decided to go to Rock Springs to see my sister, brother, and their families. The kids had a ball with their cousins! My brother and sister just built incredible houses right across the street from each other. It was fun to be able to stay in a 5 star hotel/spa! Best Buds! Kyle did inform Presley that she WASN'T his best friend, just Mya is his best friend. After realizing how much fun she was Kyle reconsidered and told me that Presley AND Mya are his best friends, "But not you, Mommy!" he said.

I was trying to take a picture of their darling homemade suckers, but realized just now that I didn't get either one of their suckers in the picture! There was an endless supply of treats. I probably gained 20 pounds. Thanks a lot Melis and Jes!

Brookie managed to stay ear infection free for a whole 5 days! She woke up the last day with yet, another ear infection. Still no allergy tests results back. We had to postpone her hearing test again because both ears have to be clear to do it. I'm starting to wonder if they will ever be clear again!

Brookie has been showing great interest in potty training. She has already gone potty in the toilet 3 times since yesterday! I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much, but she gets very excited about it. She will grab her diaper and say "poopie" and run into the bathroom. She's getting it figured out. Yesterday afternoon she was really grumpy and nothing would make her happy, then I asked her if she needed to go potty and she lit up, smiled, and ran to the bathroom! We'll see if this actually happens anytime soon! What a miracle that would be! Oh, and as you can see from the picture, she demands to wipe herself. We will be doing serious hand washing the next while!

Yesterday I was in a hurry to get out the door and asked Kyle numerous times to put his shoes on. I was around the corner and, not realizing that Kyle was in the process of putting his shoes on, asked him again to put them on. His reply was, "I'm getting them on, now just relax!"

Today Kyle was whining about something he wanted and I replied to him with frustration in my voice, "Well you wanna know what I want?" And he said, "Um, some peace and quiet?"

Kyle went to Young Women with me and when we got home Christian said, "Did you go to Young Womens with Mommy?" And Kyle said, "Mmm, no just one."

After a day or two of Christian not shaving Kyle felt his "5 o'clock shadow" and said, "Hey, you have one just like Jesus!"

Ear Update

We were back at the doctors office this week and couldn't do the hearing test because her ears were so bad still. They did a culture on the fluid draining from her ear and we should get the results from that anytime. In the mean time, they have her on a different ear drop which is clearing up the drainage...but who knows if it's actually fixing the problem! The ENT said we'd talk about taking her adenoids out in a couple of months. We are still waiting for the results of her allergy testing and will update as soon as we hear anything. Until then, we are trying to come up with new meal ideas with no milk or soy, which is very hard. She is tired of what she's been eating and we are having a hard time getting her to grow! In fact...she's just getting skinnier and skinnier. She actually fits into the size 2 diapers that she grew out of last June! Hopefully the allergist will be able to help us out with that. The ENT said to just give her a flinstone vitamin, but my gut is telling me she needs more than that! I guess we'll get it all figured out soon enough!

This is what Brookie does when she wants a bite of what you have. She'll look at you and open her mouth as wide as she can. It's so funny! Here is a random little story: At the JV basketball game at Jordan High the kids love running around the bleachers. One day the entire Varsity basketball team was sitting on the other end of the bleachers and she walked clear over to them by herself and just sat down by them. She just stayed there...and then she eventually started to bully one of the starters chips out of him! It was pretty funny.

My Grandma gave me this plaque. It was my grandpa's which makes it really special to me, and I just love the saying. When I saw it I immediately fell in love with it so my grandma told me to keep it as a little token to remember my grandpa! We're Finishing our Basement!!!

We are in the process of finishing our basement and I couldn't be happier!! The mudder/taper guy has one more coat to put on tomorrow morning, then he'll sand it on Monday. Our trim and doors are being put in on Thursday, and then we'll paint and get our carpet put in after that. We are just a few weeks away and I'm so stoked to have a dungeon to lock my kids in! Christian and his dad did the framing and Christian, his brother, and myself did the insulation.

An Ambulance, A Firetruck, A police car, Oh My!

The craziest thing happened the other day. On my way home I had to stop and fill gas. Kyle is my little helper and likes to hold the nozzle while it fills up. I put the little lever-thing down so that the gas would pump itself and turned around to put my debit card away. All of a sudden Kyle starts screaming "My eyes, my eyes!" and I turned around and gas was spraying EVERYWHERE! Kyle pulled the nozzle out and because of the lever it continued spraying and he was drenched and some had gotten in his eyes. He was hysterical, but I had to stop the spraying hose, and then get Brookie out of her car seat (because I know I would have been arrested if I didn't) and then we bolted inside to flush his eyes out with water. The gas attendant asked if he was alright and I briefly explained what happened while we were washing his eyes out. He then said that it was going to call somebody and I told him he didn't need to because I could just take him to the instacare a couple of blocks away. In the mean time Christian was on his way home from work so I called him, quickly told him what happened and where to come. I was trying to calm Kyle down, wash his eyes out, and keep Brooklyn from opening all of the candy so I had to be super quick on the phone with Christian, but I didn't realize that he didn't hear what happened, he just knew where we were and that something was wrong. Well, finally I got Kyle calmed down and he said his eyes didn't hurt anymore and then all of a sudden a firetruck, ambulance and police car showed up. I could not believe it! I was mortified. About ten huge guys with all kind of equipment showed up and rushed into the gas station. And, of course, Kyle had to feel better right before they got there so I felt even dumber. The guys were so nice and helpful and asked if I wanted them to take Kyle to the emergency room and I told them that wouldn't be necessary. They suggested I take him home and put him in the shower to let the water continue flushing his eyes out and then to follow up with an eye doctor if his eyes seemed irritated later on. While this was going on Christian rushed in the doors and was completely white! There was no time to call him back and tell him everything was alright and then he showed up to the firetruck, ambulance and police car and thought someone was dying. I felt so bad for him! That must have been a terrifying minute from the time he saw all the vehicles down the street to the time he was inside! Anyway, I'm so glad everyone was okay. Oh, and the guys let Kyle get up in the drivers seat on the Firetruck after all the paper work and everything was settled. He got to turn the lights of the truck on and off and he thought he was pretty cool! How boring life would be without a little bit of drama every now and again!

Well, we've got all kinds of new information...most of it unfortunate! Brooklyn ended up getting what Kyle had right after she got over her ear infection, which was miserable! Then, on Sunday while she was still sick from the other thing she got an ear infection again. Yip! I'm pretty much fed up with this. Poor Brookie is seriously miserable! And to top things off Christian stayed home from work today because he threw up all day and continues down stairs throwing up. We have had only 3 days in 2009 where none of us have been sick.

I found a different ENT to see Brooklyn today whom I absolutely love! Brooklyn hasn't been responding to antibiotics and every time I go to the ENT office I see someone different. Still, to this day I have seen the doctor that did her surgery for a total of 3 minutes on the day of her surgery. When I go in there they say, "Well, lets just try a different antibiotic" and then shew me out the door. They wouldn't answer my questions or even discuss my concerns with me and I started to get ticked off! The new doctor today was fabulous. I went in with lots of questions and I didn't even ask one of them because she addressed all of my concerns before even asking. We talked about her allergies and she's pretty sure that that could be a major factor in what is going on here. I asked the other office about that and they said there was no correlation at all, but this doctor has ordered all kinds of allergy tests to see what is really going on in her body. We have Brooklyn on soy milk (as suggested by our Pediatrician) but this doctor said that soy is a hidden allergy which means she won't have any obvious reactions to it, but it ends up causing other problems...like lot's and lot's and lot's of ear infections. She said the kids that get the tubes and still have problems are the ones with "hidden" allergies. She is also concerned about her hearing and is having us come back next week when her ear clears up to have some hearing tests done. I'm so encouraged after talking to the doctor today. I'm glad we found someone willing to try to get to the bottom of the problem rather than just try different antibiotics. I will let you know updates as we get them!

Who's the Fairest of them all?

Brookie thinks she's pretty darn beautiful...as does her mother! She had her 15 month well check last week and is standing tall in the 10th percentile! She is also in the 10th percentile for weight. Hasn't grown much, but the doctor said that if I weren't 4' 11'' she might be a little concerned. She's getting more and more hair and saying more and more words. Her favorites are daddy (#1 for sure), uh-oh, mommy, doggy, ducky, hi, and her own version of thank you (it's kind of a 'do deu'). She's getting over ear infections AGAIN! With this last one they were a little concerned that it was behind her ear drum which apparently causes permanent hearing loss, but fortunately it didn't get that far! The ENT just said that she's got extremely small Eustachian tubes which makes her very prone to infections. NO FUN!!

Little Boy to BIG Boy WAY Too Fast!

Kyle has had some big milestones in the past couple of weeks. He is now a Sunbeam in primary and he started preschool. I can't believe it!! He loves them both very, very much! Just an update: Kyle was super sick this past weekend and is starting to get over it. He had a high fever, bad cough, and threw up a couple of times. With Brookies ear infections and Kyles little bug nobody has been getting much sleep around here. One of my New Years Resolutions is to be more optimistic and look at the bright side of things. The bright side of all of this sickness is that we have great health insurance!

Kyle has said some really funny things lately. Here are a few:

At church Brookie always tries to escape the bench we are sitting in and after one particular escape Kyle looked at the man sitting behind us, smiled and shook his head and said, "Yeah, she's ours!"

While up at my grandma's snow blowing Kyle looked at me and said, "I don't like that power/speed shovel!"

After a snow storm Kyle and Christian seized the opportunity to go out and play in the snow. Once he got out there he looked at me with much concern and said, "It's very deep-y out here!"

Standing in front of a space heater he said, "Mommy, that thing is hotting me!"

While eating his lunch he said, "This is dewicious...and healthy!"

We were lucky enough to have Nate (Christian's brother), his wife, Jessica, and their two kids Jansen and Natalie visit from Ohio again. The kids had a blast playing together. Last month at church a neighbor boy had a little diecast Dynaco helicopter from the Cars movie. He immediately saw it and fell in love. Since then he has talked about it daily. I searched store after store and couldn't find one for the life of me. I asked my friend where she got and she said she just stumbled upon it at a Target in some random isle. I searched just about every Target in the SL valley and I even searched online and did not have any luck. Just last week I happened to stumble upon one on ebay and immediately bought it hoping it would arrive in time for Christmas. Luckily it did! The video clip below is of him opening it!

Kyle and Sydney hanging out! We went to Boise, ID for Thanksgiving. It wasn't our best get-away (as I have explained below) but we had a fabulous time visiting with his family. His mom and step-dad from Seattle met us at his Grandparents house. Christians uncle and his family also came (they live just a mile away from us and Sydney and Kyle had a blast together). Christians cousin, Josh, and his family live in Boise and they came for Thanksgiving dinner and it was fun to meet them for the first time.

Here is the gang!

I'm kicking myself for taking almost no pictures during the entire trip. It was kind of a rough one and I was completely exhausted the whole time...I guess that's why, but I'm still totally bummed!

I just wanted to give a quick re-cap of the last three vacations we've been on, including our trip to Boise:

Last Thanksgiving we went to Mexico with my family. The morning we were leaving we woke up to Brooklyn with pink eye. Then we got thrush (which was extremely painful) and then I got mastitis on both sides (which was even more painful). I was sick basically the whole time.

In July we went to South Dakota for a family reunion. On our way there we hit a deer, Kyle and Brooklyn got sick and threw up the whole time, and on our way home I got a Stupid speeding ticket.

This Thanksgiving we went to Boise, ID to be with Christian's family and Brooklyn and Christian got way sick. Brooklyn had a serious diaper rash and threw up a ton. Christian ended up having to go to the ER because he got so bad. Christians mom and grandpa got it, too. Kyle slept for maybe an hour our entire trip (J/K, but he had a really hard time sleeping and was a naughty boy because of it).

Moral to this story: NEVER VACATION WITH THE NYE'S. Something bad is bound to happen!

Here is Brooklyn trying to kick Kyle away from her new chair/bed! My parents took the grandkids to the store with them and while they were there they decided it would be fun to have the kids give them some Christmas ideas. BIG mistake! They all found their special toys and, of course, suckered Grandpa into getting them right then. How could they resist their little faces and desperate pleas for these toys they just couldn’t live without! Well, Brooklyn got in the action, too. She found this mini Lightning McQueen couch and was immediately drawn to it and would not budge from it. It was completely adorable how much she instantly loved that thing. We saw a Dora chair exactly like it so we thought we’d get her the girly one. When we took her off of it she threw a fit, refused to sit on the Dora chair and kept pointing to the Lightning McQueen chair. It was hilarious. So my dad got her her very own Lightning McQueen chair and she is extremely territorial over it. She knows it’s hers and will not let Kyle sit on it. Sometimes she’ll share, but usually as soon as she sees him on it she runs over and tries to push him off. She pulls toys over to it and will just sit there and play with the toys and she’ll drink her bottle on it. She is always on it! I let Kyle play with it all he wants when she’s sleeping and he’s starting to understand to just leave it alone when she’s around. It’s so funny to me how she’s picked up that Lightning McQueen is super Cool!!

Growing up Christian and I were both picky eaters. There was one thing, though, that both of our mothers always had around for us to eat when we didn't want what everyone else was eating...burritos!! We love burritos and eat them 1-2 times a week! Luckily Brooklyn loves them as much as the rest of the family. Unfortunately, we have to leave off the best part of it (cheese and sour cream) because of her milk allergy, but she is super happy with just beans in a tortilla!

Kyle has been saying some funny things lately and I thought I'd post a few of them. We were running to the car in the pouring rain from the store and saw a lady with her little girl and an umbrella. Kyle looked and said with amazement, "Wow, we need to get one of those!"

At the store he desperately wanted a certain toy and I told him no. He then said, "PLEASE, it's only 7 bucks!"

We turn the music up and dance often around here. One day it was on in his room and I stepped out for something and he came running saying, "Mommy, Mommy, your favorite song is on. Come on!" I went in and sure enough it was on! I've never told him it was my favorite song. He is very observant and aware of what's going on around him!

A few weeks ago at Stake conference Kyle looked up at the man speaking and said, "Hey, that's Thomas Monson!" I said, "No, but he looks like him!" Kyle insisted that it was him so I finally gave in and said, "Okay!" Later in his talk the man said something about how he "was no Thomas Monson." And Kyle looked at me with wonder and shock and said, "He's not Thomas Monson?"

The other night when I was putting him to bed he looked at me and said, "Mommy, you are so weird!"

My poor baby girl has ear infections AGAIN! This is ridiculous! Once tubes are put in infections are still possible, but very uncommon. The great thing about having the tubes is that the infection drains out so at least she doesn't have the extreme pressure in her ears. It's still uncomfortable, but not as bad as it would be without the tubes. I feel so bad for my little sweetheart! Just playing in her room.

We finally got some professional family pictures taken! It was actually kind of a nightmare and I'm not super happy with the outcome, but we'll definitely take it! Why does everything always fall apart when you're trying to get some stinkin' pictures taken? The first time we tried we didn't even get any pictures because they were horrible. I was not very happy with our photographer, but there is no need to list the many things she did wrong! I do wish that I realized that she only took one individual picture of Kyle. It's cute, but kind of goofy. I wish I had another one. And Brooklyn turned into a little MONSTER! She used to love, love, love having her picture taken and would pose any time she saw the camera. At both of our sittings she just tried to escape the whole time and would throw a fit any time we even tried to make her smile. And as soon as she was off of the backdrop she would smile away. That little knucklehead!!! But after all that I think we did get a few cute ones!

Warning: I have completely lost my sanity. If any of you have seen it...or have even a spec to spare please notify me ASAP! It's been missing for quite some time and I fear I may never get it back! I'm ready to check myself into the Salt Lake County Jail in the isolation unit. I hear that they keep them completely by themselves for 23 hours a day. Sounds wonderful! Maybe there I can get some peace and quiet!

I've been wanting to do a post about Brookie for a while now just to let grandmas and aunts know the little person she is turning into. Here it goes:

1. She loves to play on the bed. The picture above is her and Kyle monkeying around. She will stand on the bed, look at you with mischief in her eyes, and throw herself straight back. She LOVES to be thrown and flipped around and will just giggle and giggle!
2. She hates things on her feet (just like her mommy). We cannot put sleepers on her because the feet on them bug her so bad that she'll try and pull them off. I'll go in her room in the middle of the night to find her all tangled up in her sleeper that she'd been yanking on. We just don't use them anymore! Her feet get cold, though, so I put socks on her every night. They have never lasted a full night. Every morning when I go and get her out of her crib she has thrown both of her socks, and usually her binki, too, behind the crib. So I have to move the crib every few days and gather all of her socks and then start over! It's like she's trying to get rid of them so I won't put them on her anymore!
3. This little girl can eat! She is the best little eater I've ever known! She will eat anything...and a lot of it! My curry chicken dish is one of her favorites. It's funny because Kyle has always loved that one too. It doesn't seem like kids would like it because it has a spicy and unique flavor to it, but they love it! At least someone likes my cookin'! Brooklyn will often eat as much as Kyle and Kyle can eat a lot. It's a wonder she's such a pip-squeak!
4. She LOVES to dance! She'll start moving anytime she hears music!
5. She loves baby dolls and hugs, burps, and snuggles with her babies often!
6. Everyone loves how teeny-tiny she is! People always ask how old she is when they see her walking around. They always say, "She's way too little to be walking around!"
7. She is having more and more "drama queen" moments, but over all she's such a happy, sweet little girl!

A few weeks ago we did a Family Home Evening on our new Prophet. We were trying to teach Kyle about who he is and what he does. We practiced saying his name a couple of times and as he was looking at the picture above he said pointing to President Uchtdorf, "Who's that old lady?" The way he said it was so funny...we couldn't stop laughing! Just thought I'd share that little story.

Birthday Party and Ear Update

I'm finally posting pictures of Brookies birthday party! You can't tell me that that is not the cutest cake you have ever seen! Fine...I'll admit that I didn't do this one. My friend who helped me with Kyle's cake surprised me with this adorable cake! She did an amazing job and I can't even imagine how much time she spent on it. I have such amazing friends!!! Brooklyn thoroughly enjoyed it!

Now for her ear update: She had the surgery this morning and it all went well. When we were in Vegas the past few days I wondered if she had developed ear infections yet again because she she slept even worse than she has been and pulled at her ears the whole time. Of course, I was right. Before they started the surgery they said it was only about a 10 minute procedure and they'd come and get me when it was over. After a long time (maybe 30 minutes) the doctor came out and said that she had an unusual amount of fluid in her ears. The fluid was so thick that he said it was about the consistency of rubber cement. He said it took them so long because they had drain it all out. He said she will be a new person after getting all of that out. He figured that she probably couldn't hear much with all of that fluid in there, too. We have to get her on an oral antibiotic and one that you drop in her ears. It's no wonder that she's been struggling so bad lately! She had a pretty rough time in recovery, but they said that was completely normal. After about 15 minutes she felt a lot better. I'm so relieved that it's over! I'm so glad that my poor baby will finally start feeling better. And I'm extremely glad that we didn't have to wait 2 more weeks to get this done. The picture below is Brooklyn with my dad right after the surgery!

Vegas!!

Christian is out of town for work so me and the kids headed down to Vegas with my mom. We had a blast. We had to make it a quick trip so that we could be back in time for Brookies surgery. Brooklyn had kind of a rough time because her ears hurt so bad, but she was such a trooper! Brookyn became a "Grandma'a Girl" this trip. She just wanted grandma, grandma, grandma!

The kids loved this race track rug!

Brookie would sneak up and play on it any time Kyle wasn't around!

My parents just got a puppy named Katie. She is such a funny dog and LOVES binki's. She searches out Brooklyn's binki's and anytime there is one on the floor she gets it. And the funny thing is that she puts them in her mouth and holds it there just like a baby. She'll just run around with this binki in her mouth. It was really hard to capture in a picture actually how funny this is, but I did my best.

Kyle loves Katie!! Here he is giving her a juicy kiss. It is so funny that Kyle kisses with his tongue sticking out! We even have him practice with his tongue in his mouth, but he always ends up kissing this wonderful, wet way!

Here is Brookie one year ago today! And here she is today! Only 10 pounds heavier, but cruising around like she owns the place! Ear Update: She is getting tubes in her ears. I don't know who I talked to on the phone that told me they could possibly to the surgery that same day because they scheduled her to get the surgery at the end of the month. When I asked them about what the lady told me on the phone they said that was crazy talk. I was totally discouraged!!! Her ears are not infected anymore, but they still have a lot of fluid in them causing severe pressure and pain. The doctor said that the tubes would take care of that immediately and drain all of the fluid out. I asked what I was supposed to do for the next 3 weeks and the doctor said, "You can try Motrin." I was SO mad! After talking to a friend she said I needed to call back and demand they move the surgery up. Thankfully they changed it to October 9th (only one more week). At least the end is in sight for all of us!

We had the rare opportunity to go to a U football game and watch from an incredible box suite (thanks to Christians Uncle Spence)! We had a blast. Christians grandparents were in town from Boise and it was so nice to spend time with them, too! Here is Kyle and Sydney watching the game together. Sydney is Christians cousin, but is only 4 days younger than Kyle. They are moving just up the street from us and we are so excited about it! Unfortunate Update!

Poor little Brookie has ear infections...AGAIN! It started out as this crazy sore throat. Her throat was completely blistered. On top of that she had a nasty cold. The cold then caused her ear infections. To make a long story short she hasn't responded to the antibiotics they've given her. She even developed an infection in her other ear while on the antibiotic. They ended up giving her a shot that will hopefully take care of it (we're crossing our fingers). My pediatrician referred us to an ENT and we have an appointment on Wednesday. They said that depending on the severity of her ears they could possibly do tubes that same day. My poor baby girl!!!
Here are more pictures of some of her favorite places to sit. She actually pulls the dishwasher down by herself and I'll find her just sitting there!

Boxes are another favorite! We have some toy bins that I'll pull out and she'll climb in them and sit even when they are full of hard and pokey toy cars and such. Anywhere we go I'm always finding her looking for a good place to sit!

Kyle turns three tomorrow, but we celebrated tonight! We had a fun party! I forgot my camera when we celebrated with my family, but here are some pictures of our party with the Nye's. YES, I did make the cake...believe it or not! My friend, Tricia, helped me and we spent over 4 hours on this cake so everybody admire it!!!

Kyle and Brooklyn had a BALL with this little toy. Brooklyn about died when she saw it and wouldn't move more than a couple of inches away from it.

I don't think I've mentioned it on the blog yet, but I'm coaching cheer at Jordan High School and it's a blast!! I'm not sure if it's more fun for Kyle or me! Kyle has fallen in love. He has left the beach blond girls for the stunningly beautiful Amanda! He talks about "Damanda" all the time. She is such a sweetheart! All the cheerleaders just love him and he gets SO much attention any time he's around them. Here is Christian juggling the kids at Homecoming while I was running the music or doing something like that.

Not only does he love the cheerleaders, but he loves to watch the football, too. Here he is doing "spirit fingers." He sees the student body doing that during kick-off so he does it too! He really gets into the game. He cheers and yells and even shows disappointment when they've made a bad play. It's hilarious!

He's focused on the game now!And here are the cutest cheerleaders ever! I love these girls. I'm really having a blast with this job and it works out great for Kyle and Christian, too, because they both LOVE football! Go Jordan!

Every Friday we anxiously await the arrival of the garbage man. This is a very exciting time for Kyle. We even feel a kinship with this big, bearded man after so many weeks! Mya happened to be over playing today so she got to experience the joy of it, too. Kyle really does get this excited every week. He loves anything that's big, has wheels and makes lots of noise. Brooklyn is starting to walk a little bit. I had to capture a little video of her bear crawl before it's over! She crawls on all four's most of the time and I'm used to it, but every time someone sees it for the first time they always comment on it. So, for our far-away family and friends...here is a video of her little crawl. Below that is a little video of her walking (with a crash landing at the end). Please excuse the extremely high-pitched scream at the end. I was trying to distract her from the fall...and, yes, it worked!
